Three days
Three days out, and the route is yours after the first one
- Deep Thar
- 3 days
- Open sky
Your night
Wild 3 Day Desert Safari, hour by hour.
Long enough that you stop counting the hours. Day one has a shape — Kuldhara, lunch, camels, sunset, fire. After that you and the crew decide each morning what the day is, and there is enough time for that to mean something.
Day 1, 8:00 AM

Picked up in Jaisalmer
From your hotel or anywhere in town, then out through the dunes.
Day 1

Kuldhara, the ghost village
Abandoned overnight to escape a minister nobody would live under, and standing ever since. A heritage walk through the ruins with the local villagers to talk to.
Day 1

Lunch under the trees
In the shade, out of the sun, before the long leg starts.
about 4 hours later
Day 1

Forty minutes by camel
From Kuldhara out to the camp, water and vegetarian snacks on the way.
Day 1, sunset

Sunset over the dunes
From the camel, on the way in. It is the reason the day is timed the way it is.
Day 1, evening

Rajasthani buffet
Vegetarian, cooked out there, eaten around the fire.
Day 1, night

Under the open sky
You sleep outside. Deep enough in that there is nothing on the horizon.
through the night
Day 2

Your day, your call
Another camel trek, a jeep safari through the dunes, the monuments, or a combination. Long morning walks in the heat or evening ones in the dimming light. Snacks and water are always out.
about 15 hours later
Day 2, night

The fire again
Every meal is cooked in the desert over an open flame, and the second night is the same as the first.
through the night
Day 3

One more morning
Breakfast, one last ride or walk, and then the drive back.
about 9 hours later
Day 3, afternoon

Back in Jaisalmer
Dropped in town on the last afternoon.

Where you sleep
On the sand, both nights
Bed, mattress and heavy blankets on the open ground, with a fire that is kept lit. No tent and no washroom for three days.
Take this one only if you have already slept in a desert or you are certain you want to. The One Night, Two Days package is the sensible way to find out which you are.

Photos
Taken out there, on trips like yours.
Our own pictures and our guests’. Nothing here is a stock photograph of somebody else’s desert.
Getting there
Jaisalmer first, then we take over.
Getting to Jaisalmer
Trains run overnight from Delhi and Jodhpur into Jaisalmer station, and buses come in from Jodhpur, Bikaner and Udaipur. The station and the bus stand are both about ten minutes from our hotel on Fort Road.
Then
We collect you from the station, the bus stand or your hotel. Leave your luggage with us, use a room and a shower, and go out with nothing you do not need.
Where we are
Fort Road, Dhibba Para
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan 345001
The camp itself
About 40 km out, on the Siala and Damia dunes.

The things people ask before they book.
What is the exact return time on day three?
The old timetable says 5 PM in one place and 11 AM in another, so we will not print a time we cannot honour. We confirm it in writing when you ask about dates.
Three days with no washroom?
Yes. There is a shower and a room at our hotel in town when you get back, and your luggage stays there while you are out.
How much camel riding is there?
Forty minutes on day one to reach camp, then as much or as little as you want after that. Nobody is made to ride.
Can you cater for a special diet?
Everything is vegetarian and cooked on a fire. Tell us about allergies well before you go — there are no shops out there to fix a mistake.
The other ways
Not this one?
Every trip we run goes to the same desert. What changes is how long you are out, what is over you at night, and whether the folk programme is in it.
Still deciding
Tell us who’s coming.
How many of you, which nights, and whether anyone needs a washroom a few steps away rather than a dune. We will tell you which trip actually suits you, including when the answer is none of them.
