An afternoon and an evening
One afternoon, and you still get the whole evening
- Kuldhara & the dunes
- 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
- Back the same night
Your day
Sunset Cultural Desert Safari, hour by hour.
If Jaisalmer is one stop on a longer route and you only have the afternoon, this is the version that does not cut the good part. You are back in town by half ten, having seen the ghost village, the sunset from a camel, and three hours of folk music.
2:00 PM

Jeep pickup
From your hotel, or a point you name. Then the jeep safari out through the dunes.
Afternoon

Kuldhara, the ghost village
Abandoned overnight, centuries ago, to escape a minister nobody would live under. A heritage walk through the ruins, and the villagers nearby to talk to.
Late afternoon

Forty minutes by camel
From Kuldhara out to the camping area, with snacks and water on the way.
Sunset

Red sunset from the camel
The part of the day the whole trip is timed around.
Evening

Tika, Aarti, drinks, snacks
A traditional welcome at the camp, with something cold and something to eat.
Evening

Folk dance, gypsy dance, DJ
Men and women in full colour, singing songs that go back generations. Then the music turns into a DJ set.
Night

Rajasthani buffet
A full vegetarian buffet, eaten out there rather than back in town.
10:30 PM

Back in Jaisalmer
Dropped at your hotel.

Where you sleep
You don’t — you are back by 10:30
This is a day trip. You sleep at your own hotel in Jaisalmer, and we drop you there at the end of the night.
If you would rather stay out, the One Night, Two Days package covers the same evening and adds the night, the sunrise and the ride back for ₹2,500.
Photos
Taken out there, on trips like yours.
Our own pictures and our guests’. Nothing here is a stock photograph of somebody else’s desert.
Getting there
Jaisalmer first, then we take over.
Getting to Jaisalmer
Trains run overnight from Delhi and Jodhpur into Jaisalmer station, and buses come in from Jodhpur, Bikaner and Udaipur. The station and the bus stand are both about ten minutes from our hotel on Fort Road.
Then
We collect you from the station, the bus stand or your hotel. Leave your luggage with us, use a room and a shower, and go out with nothing you do not need.
Good to know
The things people ask before they book.
Can we be picked up from a hostel?
Yes — hotel, hostel or any point in Jaisalmer you name. Say where when you ask about dates.
Is 10:30 PM firm?
It is when we aim to have you back in town. The buffet finishes around ten and the drive back is about forty minutes.
What is Kuldhara?
A village abandoned overnight around two hundred years ago, left standing ever since. You walk through the ruins; it takes about forty minutes and there is somebody with you who knows the story.
Is the buffet vegetarian?
Yes, entirely. Tell us about allergies when you book and the kitchen will work around them.
The other ways
Not this one?
Every trip we run goes to the same desert. What changes is how long you are out, what is over you at night, and whether the folk programme is in it.
Still deciding
Tell us who’s coming.
How many of you, which nights, and whether anyone needs a washroom a few steps away rather than a dune. We will tell you which trip actually suits you, including when the answer is none of them.
